Questions

Are these real star charts?

Yes. Every star sits where the Hipparcos catalogue places it, sized by how bright it looks, and the brightest carry their names, many of them Arabic: Altair, Vega, Deneb, Rigel.

Printed or embroidered?

The star charts, Trouvelot’s planets and the orrery are printed: big on the back, about 20 to 30 cm at the longest side, or small at the centre of the chest, about 10 cm. The planet badges are embroidered in colour thread, about 10 cm across.

Where do the charts and drawings come from?

The star positions and brightness are from the Hipparcos catalogue (1997), through the open star data of the d3-celestial project. The planets are from The Trouvelot Astronomical Drawings (New York, 1881–82), in the public domain. The orrery uses JPL’s published mean orbital elements of the planets, and the Earth badge the public-domain Natural Earth coastlines.

Is anything redrawn?

No. The charts are plotted from the catalogue, star by star. Trouvelot’s drawings are cut free of their black pages and printed as he made them.

Which way is the chart?

As you see the sky looking up: east to the left, west to the right. The figure is joined in fine lines, and each chart gives its place in the sky in right ascension and declination.

My constellation is not here.

We started with twelve that are easy to find. We add a constellation when its chart reads well at the size of a shirt. Write to hello@miniblank.com with the one you want.

What colour are the clothes?

White, so the fine lines read like an atlas page: the heavyweight tee, the crewneck and the hoodie in white, the oversized tee in a faded white.

Which pieces are embroidered?

The eight planet badges: at the centre of the chest on the heavyweight tee, and on the left chest of the crewneck and the hoodie. Everything else is printed, so the finest lines of the charts survive.

How do I choose my size?

Every tee, crewneck and hoodie has a table in centimetres in the size guide. The heavyweight tee and the crewneck are relaxed: take your usual size. The oversized tee and the hoodie are cut loose: check the measures first.

Why do some sizes cost more?

The biggest sizes take more cotton, and embroidery costs more to stitch than a print. The exact price shows when you pick a size. Shipping stays free.

How long does delivery take?

Your piece is made after you order, then shipped to you. Orders arrive between 9 and 16 Nov, with free tracked shipping.

Where do you ship?

To 75 countries, including the United States, Canada, Australia, Switzerland, Singapore, the UAE and Saudi Arabia. The full list is at checkout. Shipping is free on every order.

Any customs charges?

The carrier may collect import tax or duties on delivery, under your country’s rules. Those go to your government or the carrier, not to us.

Where is it made?

By a production partner at one of its print and embroidery shops around the world, then sent straight to you.

How do I look after it?

Wash cold, inside out, hang to dry, never iron the print, and iron around an embroidery, never on it.

Can I change or cancel?

Yes, within 2 hours of ordering, before making starts. Write to hello@miniblank.com.

Can I send it back?

Not for size or a change of mind: it was made for you. Damaged, misprinted or wrong: we replace it or refund you. Write within 14 days of delivery with a photo. Details in the replacements policy.
