The story

Night Sky by miniblank («سماء الليل» by miniblank)

A star atlas you can wear.

Night Sky by miniblank prints the sky as it is: constellations plotted from a real star catalogue, and planets as an astronomer drew them at the telescope, in fine lines on white cotton. Nothing made up, and no coloured panels behind the design.

The star chart of Ursa Major

12 constellations.

Every star sits where the Hipparcos catalogue places it, sized by how bright it looks, the figure joined in fine lines. Many of the star names on the charts came into the atlases from Arabic: Altair, Vega, Deneb, Rigel, Alkaid.

Trouvelot’s planets.

Étienne Léopold Trouvelot drew the planets at the telescope in the 1870s, and his drawings were printed in New York in 1881–82. We cut Saturn, Jupiter and Mars free of their black pages and print them as he made them, with the date and hour of each observation.

Jupiter, as Trouvelot drew it

The eight planets.

Mercury to Neptune as small badges, embroidered in colour thread, each with its name stitched beneath. And the orrery puts all eight where they really stand on 1 January 2027, worked out from their orbits.
